It's the newest thing in the online education world. Have you heard of it? It's called MasterClass. It's the online community where famous actors, writers, and yes, even tennis players, teach everyday aspiring something-or-others how to do the thing they're best known for. Well, I signed up for it. It was a mere $90 for lifetime access to all the videos, prompts, and other resources, so I figured "why not." And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.
As you can imagine, I signed up for the James Patterson authoring course [because we all know I'm horrible at athletic things and get the worst stange fright]. What I love so much about it is that he talks to you like you're right there with him, right there in the room, and he's so personable! He also starts with the very basics--so even people like you who have never written a single fictional word in their lives know exactly where to begin. He covers a range of topics all relating to the writing and publishing process, and the best part is you get to go at your own pace. Hell, you can even watch the same clip over and over and over again as many times as you'd like--I know I did. There is so much to be learned in these short clips that one can't get it all from just watching it once, which is good because when you go back to look at something, you find what you were looking for and you end up learning just a little bit more.
The exercises are simple and easy to do--and it's fun to share them with your peers! Especially if you have any friends doing the workshop with you. The only downside is that he does talk a lot about writing mystery and doesn't really refer to other genres, which may turn authors of other genres off from wanting to watch his videos. But I promise you, everything in his clips is important to learn, even if you think it doesn't apply to you, because newsflash it probably does. This class has gotten me back into the groove for writing daily and I know that I am constantly improving thanks to Mr. Patterson. As long as I keep his words in mind, I know that I have an even higher chance of being published for all of my fiction works!
Overall? I give this course a billion stars. It really is awesome and I highly recommend it.
