So, you've finished your story, eh? You're looking to get it published, are you?

Something that a lot of writers find once they've finished the actual writing part of their journey to becoming published is that they aren't quite sure what they need to do next. Some print out their story in whole, throw it in an envelope, and send it to a bunch of publishers. While this may have worked for a very small, fraction of a percentage of published authors, this is definitely the least-fruitful way to try to get into the big leagues.

First things first, you will need to get into contact with an agent. This agent will be the one to say whether or not your book is worth trying to publish. They'll give you answers to the big question: is it ready to be sent out into the literary world? More often than not, the answer will be no, but that is OK. It's constructive criticism, and you should use it to your andvantage. If an agent tells you it isn't ready, don't just walk home with your head down; ask them why.

Now, your agent will ask you for a few things in order for them to judge whether your book would be a good investment for them or not, so always have these things handy:

1. Query

2. Synopsis

3. First Three Chapters

4. Personal Biography

5. Your contact information, including any websites or blogs you run, as well as your social media contact information.

6. Your manuscript

So what are you doing? Get cracking! You can find the contact information for many literary agents just by searching in google, so why not start now?

Cheers!
